Rotterdam Arts and Sciences Lab
Double Degree
Erasmus University, Codarts and WdKA have joined forces and have created a new innovative Double Degree education programme. Rotterdam Arts and Sciences Lab (RASL) is where art, science and futuristic ideas come together. This collaboration aspires to advance the exchange of knowledge in education and research. Moreover, it offers students the possibility to develop their skills in accordance with the changing artistic professional practices and societal issues.
RASL students combine theory and practice within a five-year Double Degree programme. On completing the RASL programme, they obtain two bachelor degrees. One from the EUR (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) and one from Codarts or the WdKA (Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts).
This programme provides the opportunity to develop knowledge on an academic level while also developing artistic skills. The graduates from this programme will possess the skills necessary to address complex and multidimensional challenges by approaching issues from different angles. In addition, their artistic practices will benefit from a deeper theoretical knowledge of the arts, media and culture. And, of course, vice versa: theoretical work will be fuelled by the artist's experience.
RASL is a platform where the arts and sciences, students and educators, education and research all come together.
Participating Institutes:
- The Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences
WdKA sees itself as a cradle for creating pioneers. The speed and complexity of technological and cultural developments strongly influence contemporary and future practices in art and design. Therefore the professional world is looking for young creatives with a multitude of talents and skills, the ones who look beyond the borders of their original disciplines: creating pioneers. Pioneers because they’re not trained to reproduce what already exists, but to put the future applications and techniques into practice right now.
- Codarts Rotterdam
Codarts Rotterdam trains talented and driven dancers, musicians and circus performers to become dedicated and inspiring artists, leaders and facilitators, ready to spread their wings in a dynamic, international context. The university has about 1,000 students, of 50 nationalities and around 340 staff members.
- Erasmus University Rotterdam
The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is a dynamic School, which offers five bachelor programmes, eight master programmes, a research master programme and a variety of courses in the fields of History, Arts and Culture Studies, and Media & Communication.
Erasmus University College (EUC) is the international honour’s college of Erasmus University, offering intense multi-disciplinary education. Founded in 2013, this liberal arts college and the student housing are located in metropolitan Rotterdam. The selective and residential character of EUC attributes to a close-knit academic community in which the students live and study together.
